Stroll down the Kurfürstendamm, Germany’s Champs-Élysées, as the roaring 1920s come to life with stories of the cabarets, cafés, and nightclubs that once filled the boulevard. Many were founded by Jewish entrepreneurs, including the still-iconic KaDeWe department store.

During the Cold War, the area became a symbol of Western capitalism and a hotbed of student protests. At Schöneberg Town Hall, we’ll revisit JFK’s “Ich bin ein Berliner” speech.

And if you’re in the mood for something more palatial, we can visit Charlottenburg Palace—the baroque gem that gave the district its name.

Conceived by Bismarck to rival Paris's Champs-Élysées, Kurfürstendamm in Charlottenburg became the lively center of 1920s decadence and nightlife. We will explore its history and stroll along Fasanenstrasse, known for its elegant early 20th-century architecture and art galleries, as well as the charming Literaturhaus.

We'll also examine the area's Cold War significance, visiting the Zoologischer Garten station, linked to West Berlin's youth heroin culture in the 1970s, and the Amerika-Haus, a cultural hub that now houses Berlin’s C/O photography museum. Together, we’ll trace the boulevard’s remarkable evolution—from imperial grandeur through Cold War capitalism to its upscale present.
